Jacob Rowe, Artistic & Executive Director, receives The Freddie G. Fellowship

At the 2024 Junior Theatre Festival in Atlanta, GA our Artistic & Executive Director, Jacob Rowe, was awarded the 2024 Freddie G. Fellowship. Named for MTI Co-Chairman Freddie Gershon, the fellowship is bestowed annually on five exceptional educators and includes an all-expenses-paid trip to New York City for professional development with Broadway greats and a $5,000 grant for the educator’s theatre program.

Jacob Rowe, Artistic & Executive Director

For theatre instructors, the Freddie G Fellowship is a highly coveted honor. Created by Music Theatre International CEO and Tony Honors for Excellence recipient Freddie Gershon, the fellowship welcomes a select group of theatre instructors to be part of an all-expenses-paid trip to New York City each summer for the opportunity to work one-on-one with industry professionals in a weekend of seminars, master classes, and Broadway shows. In addition, each of the participating teachers receives $5,000 from Gershon and his wife Myrna to enhance their arts program.

“The four days will fully engage the winning teachers in the Broadway musical theatre world and provide one-of-a-kind learning opportunities for them to take back to their schools, students and communities,” Gershon said in a statement. “These teachers perform inspiring work with limited financial resources. We want to give them the opportunity to live the Broadway experience and interact with qualified professionals to reward them for all they do to introduce the next generations to live theatre and simultaneously enhance their knowledge, skills and experience.

Disney’s Tarzan: The Musical is swinging into Langan Park for the first Theatre Under The Stars!

Mobile, AL, August 8, 2023 – The PACT Theatre Company is pleased to announce a new partnership with The City Of Mobile: Parks and Recreation for the first annual event, Theatre Under The Stars! The inaugural production is none other than Disney’s Tarzan: The Musical, a show that promises to transport audiences to the heart of the jungle. This one-of-a-kind production will be staged outdoors at Langan Park as a community event. This high-energy production is directed and choreographed by the national award-winning creative team Artistic Director Jacob Rowe, with musical direction by Christie Breland.

Based on Disney’s epic animated musical adventure and Edgar Rice Burroughs’s classic story of “Tarzan of the Apes,” Tarzan features heart-pumping music by rock legend Phil Collins and a book by TONY Award-winning playwright David Henry Hwang. High-flying excitement and hits like the Academy Award-winning “You’ll Be in My Heart” as well as “Son of Man” and “Two Worlds” make Tarzan an unforgettable experience at The PACT Theatre Company.

Washed up on the shores of West Africa, an infant boy is taken in and raised by gorillas who name him Tarzan. Apart from striving for acceptance from his ape father, Tarzan’s life is mostly monkey business until a human expedition treks into his tribe’s territory, and he encounters creatures like himself for the first time. Tarzan struggles to navigate a jungle, thick with emotion as he discovers his animal upbringing clashing with his human instincts.

This community event will include food trucks, nonprofit organizations, local vendors, local organizations and fun activities for adults and kids alike! This event will also have the first “Musical Theatre Day,” a one-day event where local school-aged kids will be invited to come out to the park to learn musical theatre skills and a dance number. They will be able to perform it before the show on Saturday night! This Musical Theatre Day will be a free educational event, and we will provide each participant with a free ticket to the show that night!

See Tarzan as never before in a unique outdoor setting! You will be amazed to see Tarzan swinging high above the ground, leaving lasting memories for the whole family. Grab some food from a local food truck, bring a picnic dinner, and enjoy a night of live theatre under the stars!

Legally Blonde: The Musical at The PACT Theatre Co!

By Hannah Love

In just over a week, the PACT Theatre Company will be showing the Broadway hit, Legally Blonde: The Musical. Like the film of the same name, it’s a familiar story: Sorority girl meets frat boy. Girl and boy fall in love. They get engaged. Psych. Boy breaks girl’s heart and goes off to Harvard. She follows him (and gets accepted in the Ivy League Law Program without any previous law experience or interest). And the rest, well, you’ll have to see.

I recently got the privilege of attending rehearsals and let me just say, I am positive you will love it. One thing that stood out to me as I sat in the audience was the infectious energy of the cast. Every moment is intentional, and it is evident that the very Red Bull that sustains Elle’s antics is the same thing flowing through the veins of this stellar cast.

Watching musical numbers like “What You Want” and “Whipped Into Shape” will leave you wondering just how these performers are still able to stand up by the end of the night. I give it up to an impressive amount of endurance they maintain throughout the show. One of these performers who requires this endurance is Emma Walker (Brooke Wyndham). When I asked her about her experience with this show, she told me, “Getting to portray Brooke Wyndham in my own way is so fun and I’ve loved every minute of it.”

Beyond the stage, one of the most impressive things about this production of Legally Blonde is the fact that there has only been six weeks of rehearsals. Omigod!  For those unfamiliar with typical rehearsal processes, six weeks is a very short amount of time to produce a full-scale musical. Both Reid Williams (Emmett Brown) and Malinda Powers (Paulette Bonafaunte) remarked that it has been a challenge, but a rewarding one!

I would be remiss not to mention the musical’s leading lady… or, in the case of the PACT, leading ladies. Lillian Odom and Morgan Davidson have both taken up the mantle of Elle Woods. One thing to note is that even though they are playing the same character, they are bringing their own hot pink flair to the role. Both expressed to me that Elle Woods has been a dream role since they were little girls. Passion radiates from both Odom and Davidson, so whichever girl you see in the role, you will be treated with a wonderful show.

So come out and see the show July 14-31, 2022! Tickets are available on thepactmobile.com. If you come on out to see Legally Blonde, you will be so much better for it!
